Drawing on two clinical and theoretical scenes arranged as a diptych, this article ex-amines the paranoid dimension inherent to the psychoanalytic setting. The first act re-visits the historical episode of Jean-Jacques Abrahams and his tape recorder (Brussels, 1967). Its staging by Sartre in Les Temps Modernes started an anti-psychoanalytic reading rooted in a fundamental misreading. The second act presents a clinical vignette — the Woman with the Recorder. A patient’s evocation of a recording device worn during a session triggers the analyst into an intense experience of intrusion and paranoid contagion.

The discursive functioning of Unabomber/Ted Kaczynski’s Manifesto — Industrial Society and Its Future (1995) — is deconstructed both as a text with a paranoid struc-ture, and as an ideology aimed at political mobilisation. A narratological and linguistic analysis of the Manifesto — its analytical tone, the near-absence of the first person, its abstract and macro-social lexicon, its causal hypotaxis ecc — reveals a writing that mimics scientific discourse while concealing an intense emotional charge.
